Legal Question in Business Law in New York
former employee working on own now
I left a small business I worked for after many years. I have started my own similar business. What is the law when it comes to who I am allowed to market and solicit business to? I never signed any non compete clause ar anything like that.

Re: former employee working on own now
You can market and sell to whomever would be your customer, so long as you don't out-and-out steal your former employer's client list (which they probably regard as trade secret information).
Better make ABSOLUTELY SURE there is no noncompete agreement in place, though; they can hide among the pile of papers that get signed at the first day and the last day of a job. If one did get by you, you should abide as much as possible to its terms.
Good luck.
