Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Filing civil and criminal complaint
How do I go about filing a civil and criminal complaint in New York City? I searched online but couldn't find anything. I saw some counties in other states allow you to file online. What is the cost to file a complaint?
The reason for the complaint is that former customers who have taken educational courses which I provide are claiming I provided a different service or claiming they did not receive the service and want refunds.

Re: Filing civil and criminal complaint
There is no on-line filing as of yet in civil court. The cost of filing depends on the amount you are seeking to recover. If the amount is over $25,000.00, you have to commence your suit in Supreme Court where the filing fee is $210.00. If the amount is less than $25,000.00 but over $5,000.00, you can file in Civil Court for $35.00. If the amount is under $5,000.00 you can bring suit in Small Claims for $10 or $15 (I don't recall specifically).
The District attorney will not accept a criminal complaint in a civil matter such as yours.

Let me add that, if your are a Corporation or LLC, you can not appear in court without an attorney.
