Legal Question in Business Law in New York

how do I find out if i am a member of an llc

I was told I was part of an llc but never was given papers to that effect. How can I find out if I actually am on an llc? The llc was used in the purchase of a house. Will the llc members be listed with the county where the house is? or will ownership only show the name of the llc?

If the LLC purchased the house then the LLC will be on the deed. In NYS, LLC members are not listed anywhere except internally as to the LLC's files.

Depending on what state the LLC is organized in, the "Secretary of State" or the "Corporation Commission" of that state has those records. Some states provide that information online, and in other states you have to call in and ask or order a copy of the records for a fee. Usually, searching for "New York corporations" or "Pennsylvania corporations" in Google will get you to the correct website to search or get a phone number.
