Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Forced leave

Is it legal for a company to tell employees that they will be closed for 4 days and that this will count as annual leave. Therefore people who no longer have any leave days left, are forced to take it as unpaid leave.

Re: Forced leave

Yes. NY is an at will state. Which means the employer and employee maintain a relationship, so long as a contract does not state otherwise, as long as they wish.

In this case, if the company says that they are closing for a few days and that you will not be paid unless there is time to charge against it, you must take it or find another job.
