My friend and I are looking to start up a gift basket business in NY with homemade jarred items and baked goods. Do we need to obtain any special licenses to start this business?

Yes, any business that sells food items needs to be properly licensed with the State. Depending on what food items are sold, you may require a variety of State approvals, including kitchen inspections. For further information, you should check with the NY Department of State.
