Re: Fund Raiser

There are several issues to consider when a person wants to have a fundraiser/raffle. All of these issues should be addressed by contacting the proper authority for a definitive answer.

Is this type of raffle approved by local/state authorities or is it considered gambling or gaming? Is a license or permit required? (Contact local and state authorities.)

Does the athletic association affiliated with the beneficiary of the fundraiser have any restrictions on this type of activity? Does it affect any type of amateur or professional status? (Contact the athletic assoication.)

Would the funds raised be for a not-for-profit organization set up for the beneficiary or can the proceeds go to the beneficiary personally? How would that be reported to the IRS? (Contact a CPA.)
