Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Health Insurance for Corporation

I apologize if I posted in the wrong area but no one seems to answer the insurance section.

If you started a corporation you then become an employee of it correct? So when applying for insurance would I apply as an individual or try to get the ''group'' insurance even though I have no employees yet?

I have to get insurance right away I mean RIGHT AWAY before I visit the doctor because if I'm correct insurance companies don't cover pre existing symptoms for 1 year.

Can any of you lawyers who are self employed/partners tell me which you use and what it cost? Did you go through the company or as an individual?

PLEASE HELP ITS SERIOUS!

You would most likely have to apply as an individual. All questions regarding cost should be referred to your insurance broker.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.

Thank you for your question.

As a general rule, you would qualify as an individual because you are essentially a self-employed business owner. If you list yourself as an employee, the taxing authorities may fail to distinguish that you are self-employed and assess payroll taxes such as unemployment insurance and workers' compensation.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
