Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Hello,
We had our taxes done by a local paypal and tax firm for the 2008 year. We recently received a notice from the IRS that we owe 2800.00 dollars from that tax year. The reason is that the employee that did our taxes made a typo and our refund was larger than it should have been. It was clearly a mistake on the tax firm. We are a little frustrated because we paid a fee to a professional to avoid these issues. The firm was apologetic and has offered to pay any penaties thus far. Should they be liable for this mistake? Should they refund the preperation fee?
Thanks Jeff

You still owe the taxes (whether or not there was a mistake). The tax firm should pay the penalties and interest.
Mike.
