Legal Question in Business Law in New York
If I hire someone to paint my home's exterior and agree to pay them $1,000. Then they end up painting my neighbor's house instead, so I tell them that the deal's off, did I just terminate the contract or am I still liable to pay the contractor once he paints my house?
This is under Common Law, not NY law.

If the contract is verbal you may terminate it any time before they start work. Why in heaven's name would they paint your neighbor's house?
