independent contractor

new company took over Nov, cut my pay. I picked up some more work with them to make up the difference to what I lost, amount was agreed upon. In June or July my checks where short anywhere from 200 or 500 a week, they now owe me 3000.00. I have talked to 4 or 5 people already about this and Im either told they are working on it or they will sit down with me so this can be straighten out. Today they where suppose to meet with me again and once again they didnt have the time. what can I do ? Can a company agree on something and then because they feel you make to much money the next day take it away?

The short answer is no. What you can do about it depends on whether you are a salaried employee or an independent contractor.

As a salaried employee, you can file a complaint with the Labor Department.

As an independent contractor, the issue is whether you are paid straight time or commission. If on commission, you have the right to seek damages over and above what is owed. If straight time, you can seek damages solely what is owed as per original agreement.
