Re: interest from a judgement

Article 50 of the CPLR provides for what is commonly referred to as "pre‑judgment" interest in two stages: (1) interest up to the time of the "verdict, report or decision" under CPLR 5001, and (2) mandatory interest during the time between the verdict, report or decision and the "date of entry of final judgment" under CPLR 5002. CPLR 5004 sets the rate of interest at 9% per annum, unless otherwise provided by statute. CPLR 5003 is the provision which mandates post‑judgment interest.

Re: interest from a judgement

All the CPLR stuff (do you as a non-lawyer actually care about that?) from Mr. Chan boils down to the fact that the statutory interest rate on a money judgement is 9% per year.
