Legal Question in Business Law in New York
LLC for a E-business: can I conduct business in my coop unit?
Hi:
I am a shareholder and tenant in a coop building in New York. I am planning to create a web based business and create a LLC for that purpose.
To file the paperwork with the NY Dept of State, I will need to give the address of my LLC. Since my business will be virtual and I don't need an office, I am planning to ''conduct my business'' from home.
As a shareholder in a COOP, do you think I have the right to use (1) my home address as official address of LLC AND/OR (2) my apartment unit as my office? I read the property lease but it just says the unit can only be used as a ''private dwelling'' (not precise)
Thank you for any light you can bring.

You should check the house rules and bylaws of the coop to determine if that's allowed. If you see nothing, its best to check with the managing agent to see what they say. In asking, make sure all your queries are in writing with responses documented. Also, if they are against you using your unit as an office, you can have a registered rep use an address for you in NY.
Feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss this further. Good luck with your new business too.
