Logo Infringement

I was wondering if you can copy a logo for a product/company that is no longer in business? For example making a t-shirt with this logo and some alterations made to it. Is that legal?

No, it would not be legal, unless the intellectual property rights attaching to the material have expired. These rights could include both trademark and copyright protection, depending upon the nature of the logo.
