Missing articles of incorporation

my community group would like to apply for non profit

status.the group was incorporated in 1926 and has since

had a name change. However I cannot find the original

incorporation papers needed to get a not for profit

irs status.

where can i look for it.

The Secretary of State's office is a good place to start when a legal entity needs a copy of its formation papers. The SOS should have those documents on file along with the name change documents (but it would not have a copy of documents such as by-laws).
