Music Production Licensing

What type, if any, of licensing is required to start a music production company?

No special licensing is normally necessary. You need to establish an entity (a corporation or an LLC is commonly used), get a tax id and do a few other setup things. Then, most of your business will be conducted on the basis of contracts with artists, producers, record labels, distributors, etc. If you will administer copyrights, you may want to join a performing rights organization, but apart from tax issues you will not have much interface with government agencies.
