Payment, or Lack There of.
I have not been paid by my employer. There is a company in California who handles payment. They said working papers are required. I thought I was above the New York cut off. I am 17 years old. I have not been paid for about 2 months work. Are working papers really required? Can they dock my pay for all this time? Thank you for the help.

Working papers are usually required to age 18, but you can check with your local employment offices as to the age requirement. If a lower age is the limit, you should tell your employer. Whether required or not, and if required, obtain them, you are entitled to be paid for your work. If there is a problem, you may have to sue to get your wages. You can probably get help from a local Legal Aid office if litigation is necessary.

I thought working papers were only required for age 16 and younger, but a call to local Dept of Labor office will answer that.
Under NY law, there's some very strong laws requiring the payment of wages. If wages are not paid within 5 days, generally the employee can get punitive damages and attorneys fees . . . which sometimes makes such a case more appealing to attorneys! Labor Law Sec. 190.
