Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Publishing free software program
Hi. I've developed a software program that I would like to publish as a free product. I'd like to consider a few options: do I publish it under my own name or do I create a business entity? If so, what kind of company? Since the product will be free I am more concerned with liability issues rather than tax implications but if the product is successful I might start charging for it in one of the next releases so the tax question might be important as well. Thank you.

Re: Publishing free software program
If you are concerned about potential liability issues or future taxation of profits, a corporate structure is certainly a good option.
