Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Reposses Leased Auto

I was late paying a couple of tickets on my leased car and my car was towed. I have a fully paid lease up to August08. I also went to the marshall's office and paid off everything I owed, but was told the car had been picked up by the leasing company! I contacted them and they tell me that unless I pay the full purchase balance on the car that they will not return it to me-even though I have a fully paid lease! Can I do anything about this or are they supposed to return the prepaid lease money to me?

Re: Reposses Leased Auto

It's a good question.

You need to have an attorney take a good close look at your lease agreement, since the answer to your question may be contained therein.

Hire someone who is geographically close by to you and with whom you feel comfortable. The NYS Bar Association (www.nysba.org) or your county's bar association are good places to get referrals if you need one.
