Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Responding to request from Attorney General

I have received a letter from the NYS AG Assistant re an Investigation of my company. The letter is suggesting that I may be violating NY General Business Law in connection with promoting services that may be deceptive. I dis-agree. In addition, they have requested a meeting to discuss the issue. Can I request a tele-conference in lieu of a meeting due to the distance and calender conflicts. How should I proceed?

You can request a teleconcference but it's discretionary whether one will be provided. You should get an attorney to represent your business if you don't have one already.

contact the assigned AG and explain the confilict/ situation and most importantly GET A LAWYER... these investigations are not to be taken lightly. I worked with an Attorney General's office for some time doing investigations of securities companies and in many circumstances the amount of power available towards businesses is a lot more than in general criminal matters, and the potential damage to your business may be very high.
