Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Sales to Minors

My daughter is 17 and will be entering college in the fall. She as told at freshman orientation that she would need to purchase a specific type of camera for a class. Being unknowledgeable about cameras, we went to a independant dealer. We were advised to but xyz camera which my daughter purchased for around $300. A few days later my daughter contacter her college and was told she bought the wrong type of camera and that she could borrow one from the collete. My daughter is going to college on scholarhips, loans and her own pesonal money so this was great news that she didn't need to buy the camera. $300 dollars would go a long way towards purchasing her text books for her first semester. I contacted the camera store and they said they would only give her store credit. That does us absolutly no good. I explained all the circumstances to them. Do we have any recourse? Especially since she is a minor?

Re: Sales to Minors

The store generally must post a notice or on the receipt saying no refunds - store credit only. Generally though, no recourse as they are making good the $$ spent there.

If any real problems, contact the BBB locally/regionally.

Sorry.

Good Luck
