Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Served with Papers

On Friday I was served with legal papers regarding a lawsuit over broker fees on a real estate transaction. The papers had my address, but the wrong name,--name removed--J.--name removed-- I am--name removed--V.--name removed-- I tried to refuse the papers, but the gentleman would not leave my porch.--name removed--J.--name removed--is my deceased cousin who owned the property in question 25 years ago before he sold it to the other 2 listed defendents in this suit. What can I do to relieve myself of this lawsuit since it clearly has nothing to do with me? I attempted to call the attorney for the plaintiff, but he refused to speak to me about the situation...

Re: Served with Papers

im sorry to tell you, your best bet would be to hire an attorney to appear for you and clarify the matter... on an issue such as this it should not cost you much at all...

Re: Served with Papers

You should retain an attorney to serve and file an answer. If you do not want to spend the money, you should go to the clerk's office to prepare and file an answer.

Mike.
