Small claims court concerning a sub s corporation

In 1998, I owned a sub s corporation which I was president of and I operated as a manager for actors. The company only operated for one year, I stopped doing business in 1999. At the time of closing my business, my corporation did not have any income and no assets.

Now a former client is claiming I owe them $3,000. The company was located in New York city, I lived and live in New Jersey. Can I get the case dismissed on the basis the company does not exist anymore, and I live in New Jersey not New York city. Please advise ASAP!!!

How was the corporation "closed"...Was it 'closed' with the secretary of state..or is it still on the books as an active corp to be sued.

Check the NYS Sec State website for a quickie answer to this.
