Legal Question in Business Law in New York
My storage unit was recently robbed. This was close to a $10,000 loss for me. The lease states the owner is free from responsibility.
The owner did not contact me until 2 weeks after the locks were cut and I was robbed. The Police have stated because the owner waited so long to contact them it will be nearly impossible to find the stolen items.
Can I sue the owner for gross negligence?

The terms of your written contract determine the degree of liability, if any, of the storage unit.
There may also exist court holdings and case law that have ruled on this issue. Contact an attorney, negotiate a consultation fee; if may be worth your while.
