teaching on the side
is it illegal to teach inside your own home on the side eventhough you are employed thru the board of ed in long island?

It could be if you are conducting an unlicensed private school.
Are you talking about tutoring, or something else?

In representing teachers on Long Island and NYC I have discovered that each district has separate provisions in their contract regarding extracurricular activities of its teachers. You can check with a union rep (anonymously), or speak with an attorney if it is that important to you.
