Wedding Planner Contract

I am in wedding planning school, and I have my first client ..I am meeting with her and would like to take a contract if she decides that she would like my services. Where do I get that from?

Re: Wedding Planner Contract

You don't "get" a contract, you have an attorney draft one. You can "get" a form wedding planner contract on the internet. Then again, you can also learn how to perform a surgery on the internet.

Wedding planners get sued ALL OF THE TIME. Why? Because weddings are super-special, super-sensitive occasions, involving flowers, music, alcohol, cake, invitations, gowns, the weather, etc., any of which can go wrong on a given day.

If your contract isn't carefully drafted and you ruin someone's wedding (or they think you ruined the wedding), be prepared to spend tens of thousands of dollars defending yourself.

Re: Wedding Planner Contract

Going into a business such as that requires that you form a good, hopefully long-term, relationship with a business attorney who can fulfill those kinds of needs. You are only training to become an event planner--not a lawyer. You may even develop a database of forms and contracts as you grow. However, without reviewing the content of each of those agreements with a knowledgeable business attorney on a client-by-client basis is only inviting big trouble.

Contact me or one of the attorneys on the Board to discuss your needs in detail.
