Legal Question in Business Law in New York

I did some work for a company by expanding their area of service. I single handedly made all of the relationships and got all the contracts signed for the expansion. My contract stated I would recieve residuals as my pay for 3 years. After awhile they decided the contract was not valid and should be shortened to 2 years. I did considerable travel for this position and was never reimbursed for gas as promised. One year has passed and each month it is a struggle to get my pay. I am several months behind in getting paid and he refuses to answer my emails or phone calls. I am not sure what to do. One friend advised me it was not worth fighting over as I get 500-1000 per month and even if I won I would be hard pressed to collect the money. I still do some work for them by setting up events, maintaining relationships in the community and making appointments for clients as per the contract. Should I seek legal help or just accept the loss?

Any attorney will say it depends on how much these residuals mean to you. When you say they decided the contract was not vali and shortened it to two years, was this done by mutual agreement? It seems like they are taking advantage of you. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.
