3rd. degree harrassment

my son has been charged with 3rd. degree harrassment. i am trying to find out how serious this is and what could happen. it is his 1st offense

Harassment is considered a "violation" under New York law, that is, it's not considered a crime, but there are certain penalties that can attach. For example, a judge can impose a maximum jail sentence of 15 days, or impose a fine, or issue a temporary order of protection. Please call for details.
