Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
I was adopted as a child and I would like to change my name to my birth given name. How ever I was convicted of a felony back in 1996. Is that going to effect being able to change my last name back?

It is up to the court to grant such a petition. The petition must list all violent felony convictions, among other requirements, and they are usually granted unless there are extenuating circumstances not to grant the petition.
