Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
I need advice on this situation: I attended AIPH for 3 quarters and when I trasfered to SVA they claimed that I broke the dorm lease by not staying 4 quarters. I told them that I do not wish to stay another year so they said that I could either pay a fine of about $500 or have it deffered. I tried to contact the head of the housing department by phone and e-mail yet I was ignored. Now I have been sent a letter stating that I owe $1,700. I was finally able to reach a receptionist this week that told me that I must pay this balance or else my credit will be ruined. I'd like to know where I stand leagally.
