Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
Common Law
I was wondering if common law is something that is recognized in New York State. If so how does it work...or what is considered common law?
Thank You.

Re: Common Law
Common Law essentially is the established traditional law as adapted from Britain regarding a specific code. i.e. criminal law, property law etc. In New York most common law has been replaced by specific statutes in a specific article of law. Generally speaking, if there is no specific statute addressing conduct subject to a lawsuit, a court in a common law jurisdiction would apply the common law application to the situation.
