Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
I Have Been Falsely Accused
I have been working at a largely known bank for 5 months. I was recently accused and charged with embezzlement withiout any proof or evidence. I was terminated and I had to sign a stipulation saying I would pay back money to the bank. My question is if you steal from the bank, the first step would be to get arrested whicn they did not do. They did not have anyone in the room to represent me and they badgered and threatened me with going to jail. I was so scared and tired after sitting there for 4 hours telling them i did not take the money. It seemed the only way to get out of there was to tell them that i took the money. I feel so stupid for writing that staement(which by the way is the 2cnd statement) but I know that i was a easy target they could see the fear when they kept telling me about jail. Please somebody help me. They said they have digital footage but never showed me the tape. They never even gave me a warning. If anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: I Have Been Falsely Accused
I'm sorry for your situation but there's little you can do after admitting you embezzled money. You need to understand that the bank has no obligation to call the police, even if they believe you are stealing (although it is likely that if they truly had evidence, they would have called the police and had you arrested).
Nevertheless, you have signed an admission of guilt, if you sued them now and claimed that they wrongly fired you all they would likely do is present your admission of guilt as proof of cause. While I sympathize with your circumstances,
I'm afraid that you have left yourself without an avenue of redress.
