Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
family medical leave act
hi there...i wanted to know what the law is or what rights i have due to the following...i will be brief as possible..i approached my employer(manager and VP of my division) that I had what seemed to be a recurring medical problem and that I was being absent excessively and volunteered to sumbit doctors notes in the future as i suspected this was not going away soon...however months and months later, compounded with a sprained ankle, strep throat, and another medical problem, my employer presented me with a written warning regarding my abscences that i had been abusing the policy of abseentism....when i approached human resources with the situation they offered me the family medical leave act to which i was unaware of at the time.....but this was after the fact and of course after my health has improved drastically....i questioned this and have received no response however i was given another written warning subsequently since they continue to penalize me for the days i was out sick even though i had doctors notes and was never afforded the opportunity to apply for the leave act prior to these incidents...when i had approached my employer 6 months early telling them of the recurring problem...any advice ????
