Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

I recently was with a man and we were not married however but he racked up my credit cards and I paid for parts for his car and bought a motor cycle he has now left and I am in severe debt with his name not attached to any of this can he get away with not paying for any of this debt I have the credit card reciepts showing this but they are in my name what can I do about this and how do I seek legal help I feel like my only option is to file bankrupcy and this is going to go against my credit and not his.. Now he is also doing this to another woman..

If you can prove that the funds extended to the "gentleman" were not gifts you might want to consider filing a civil suit against him for recovery.

He will likely claim that the money was given as a gift or series of gifts and therefore no obligation to return it exists.

You are in an unfortunate position, but if you are willing to fight you may be able to recover some of the debt incurred on his behalf.
