Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

If someone hires a lawyer to represent him as plaintiff in a civl case, and that lawyer prepares the case for trial but susequently gets permanently disbarred for reasons unrelated to the plaintiffs case, what is the plaintiff to do if he cannot afford to hire another attorney as is already in bankrupty? He has asked the court for assignment of counsel but was denied.

Please Note: The plaintiff suffers from (documented) mental disabilities that indicate he is not a canidate for self-representation.

Please advise.

Thanks

what is the lawsuit about? is there a financial recovery? if there is and the laswuit is at the trial stage, you might get an attorney on contingency agreement. Also, what is the state of the bankrupcy, was the client discharged? If he wasn't and there is a financial recovery, then the trustee might assist with the counsel.
