Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
Identification
Are there any laws in NYC (including State or Federal) that require a lawful individual to posess &/or present a form of identification on their person when in public?
A bouncer at a nightclub stated I had to have ID on me. I understand the bouncer's and nightclub owners' concerns - but I do not drive and do not drink. I can provide a law enforcement agent with my name, DOB and SSN for their verification if requested, but am I required to have any documentation? What form of ID must I have to walk a public street?
Thank you,
