what is legal standing?

Legal standing is the right to sue. One that has had their legal rights infringed upon is the proper party to sue. There are a few exemptions, i.e. relating to groups, and third parties, but these are specific in nature.
The general rule is that the person that has been harmed is the proper party to exercise their rights.
