You are "living with" not "leaving with" somebody. In NY that doesn't matter. YOu get no rights for living with someone.

This guy is wasting your time. Move on or get a contract. Do not let him put stuff in his name and you get no part of his earnings if you leave him or he leaves you.

NY is NOT a community property State. SO living with someone for 10 or 20 years means absolutely nothing for their relationshio, they are still legally seen as two diffrent individuals.

UNLESS there are any assest which are specifically set as 'JOINT' assets - such as if a lease is signed by both people, or a bank account is a 'joint' bank account... those things then obviously are seen as equally divisible by the two parties in case of a split.

You mention he may be worried about money, and this being his reason for not wanting to get married because of this reason, and that you are NOT interested in this at all... Im not sure how wholly true that may be because the mere fact that you are asking this question would go to show that there are obviously some thoughts in that direction...

Regardless, If this person is not prepared to commit to you in the way you would like, or if you are have other motives other than just the relationship itself for wanting to be with this person... keep in mind how happy this will make you long term, if you can truly happily live with the fact that you are either (like he thinks) there for other reasons and (like you asked) with someone who is not giving you what you feel you deserve...
