Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Is it legal

Recently I have been faxing out my resume to expand my career. Today I was approached by my employer and was asked if I was currently seeking a job else where. I stated to my employer that I was indeed looking but for part time employment to offset my bills, she explained to me that I faxed my resume to a company last night and that the person contacted her today and advised her that I sent my resume to them. The person who called happened to be my employers sister. I would like to know if that is illegal as being a breach of confidentiality by the sister calling and telling my employer this. I was not contacted by this person by any means as to whether or not to fill out an application or have an interview. Is there a law that states that this behavior is unacceptable being that I never disclosed a contact number as to where I work other than listing my current employment on my resume. Please someone contact me and advise me of this situation and to what are my rights.

Re: Is it legal

Of course it's legal. You put your resume out for anyone to see it. Would you think it might be illegal if instead of the person contacting your boss, she contacted a prospective employer who then called you and offered you a job? There is no right or reasonable expectation of privacy when you use a fax machine to send out resumes.
