Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

minors rights

My friends and I were hanging out around town at night, to get home faster we used a alley-way short cut. The cops stopped us for suspected use of alcohol because of our location. We are 16, and had not been drinking. one of my friends got scared and ran, although he had been doing nothing wrong. He got away and the cop then asked for his name and detained us because he ran. It was determined we did nothing wrong, and we were relaesed. Now the cops are going around town asking for my friend (we only gave his first name). If the cop finds him, and has no proof that it was him they saw other then the cops memory, can my friend get in trouble? (by the way this took place in New York, and it has been 2 weeks since the issue and the cops are still asking for him.)

YOur friend should get a lawyer. That lawyer can contact the officer, tell him that he will make your friend available but not let him question him. You may want to speak to a lawyer too. It is possible your rights to travel were violated. Unless they saw more than you guys walking, they should not have stopped you.
