can a nonprofit organization (greyhound rescue) stop a person from attending functions because they don't like their point of view

In general, no. It would be a violation of an individual's rights to freely associate and speak under the First Amendment, and also the State Constitution. However, in practice, it is done and is hard to police against private agencies.
