Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
Does a person have to carry identification with them in NYC. If identification is request by the police do you have to give it to them?

U.S. law does not require you to carry any government issued identification. The police are only permitted to request identification on probable cause that you committed a crime and as part of the administrative process incident to an arrest.
