What legal recourse/actions are available in order to get back personal belongings that were not returned

An action in conversion. It is a tort you also have a potential civil rights action if the police if they took your stuff. Pease be sure however to discuss all of this with an attorney of your chossing as it is all highly complex and the law is tricky if you are going to go it alone.
