Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

To ask for ID or not to ask for ID from plain clothed officer

I recently visited a conveinent store. My cousin and i were playing around during our purchase when an individual approached us . I asked for his identification because i was unsure of who he was. I was arrested for tresspasing after insisting on see his credentials. he never showed his badge and he did state he was an off duty officer. Does he by law have to produce some ID?

If you are in NYC, you should take this matter to the CCRB (Civilian Complaint Review Board). You should also consider retaining a civil rights attorney. You do have the right to demand to see police id. There is no way you should have been charged with tresspassing for going into a store.
