Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Pregnant andd denied light duty

I am a nursing assistant at a hospital and I am newly pregnant. My physician informed me to try to get as much help as possible until my first trimester is over. I was given a note that stated No Heavy Lifting, when I gave this note to my supervisor she relieved me of duty. I tried to find ways so I can go back to work because I can not afford to be out. They told me that there is no such thing as light duty and theres nothing they can do, but put me out. So my question is.

: Is it legel for your employer to not accomodate you if its necessary?

If you have suffered a loss of employment or a reduction of income because you are pregnant then you may be the victim of unlawful pregnancy discrimination. See http://eeoc.gov.
