Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
radio harrassment
We live in a quiet area of 7 homes.
One of the neighbors has decided they cannot live without their radio blaring on high volume all day and evening, every minute they are at home and awake. They are making life miserable for everyone else (we are mostly at-home people).
We have asked them in a polite way to crank it down a bit, but were told: ''we like our music''. Now it's even louder. They do this even when the lawn tractor is running!!!
What can we do? (The police don't care unless they are killing somebody)
Please help!

Re: radio harrassment
Use your video recorder and record out the window with time date stamps. Then, you can, if you feel strongly enough, take them to court as creating a noise nuisance. There is probaby a statute on public noise in your town, and you can certainly use that as the basis of a civil complaint. A local lawyer can help you find the ordinance, but chances are the city clerk can find it for you quickly.
You have the right to enjoy your music, but not when it is disturbing everyone. Your suit will have a lot more punch, if you get others in the neighborhood to sign on as co-plaintiffs.
