Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
religious discrimination case
i have a religious discrimination case that has a hearing date(s) set for july 2005. i have no lawyer as i have no money to pay unless contingency, and the division lawyer i have been assigned has systematically decided to eliminate the very witness the hearing is for. his resoning is he is running the show and doesn't want a long drawn out hearing(it is already for 3 consecutive days). he hasn't read the 112 pages from the entire case he was sent and says he can't be bothered. what can i do to get a diffrent division lawyer? I have had no luck getting a contingency lawyer. i was harrassed and eventually fired for being wiccan. can i write the judge to request he intervene? thsi lawyer is not the least bit interested in the case. just another on his desk. i have suffered emotional and perfessional damages.

Re: religious discrimination case
If you are not satisfied with your lawyer you have every right to fire him and hire a different one. Since your case is civil in nature you don't have a "right" to an attorney so writing to the judge will not alleviate your problem, nor will he "appoint" you counsel. You are unlikely to get an attorney on contingency for your type of issue. You may want to contact the ACLU and see if they're interested in handling your case. Or you amy want to contact a Wiccan orginazation (?) describe your problem and see if they have any attorney on staff that can help you or if they can recommend anyone who deals specifically with Wiccan legal issues. Good luck.
