Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Spreading Rumors

What action can be taken about students spreading lies and menacing at school? Rumors are being spread about computer hacking and other illegal activites that just aren't true. These students have already been told by the police that there is no proof to their claims, yet they are continuing the harrassment at school. Thank you.

Re: Spreading Rumors

Hit them with a summons with notice alleging that they are libeling or slandering someone. It will cost you a few bucks, but it will not only get their attention, but that of their parents too. I would see an attorney to have him file and serve these kids also, it will give further weight to the document and force the adults in their lives to see you mean what you say.

Good luck.
