Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
Stalked by private investigators
Private detectives came to my house
and asked questions about me.
They were asking about an aquaintance
Can I protect myself of this
harrassment?

You are not being harassed. The private detective is conducting an investigation. You can choose to participate, or not participate. After you have told him in no uncertain terms that you do not want to participate, if he continues, call the police and report his behavior to his licensing authority, (the Secretary of NY State). If he becomes more aggressive you may have a law suit in which you can get a stay away order from the court against the P.I.
