Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
I tend to get looked upon for doing something wrong by local cops in my area because of my nationality. I never got arrested in my life nor a speeding ticket. But local cops around in my area don't want to accept this. So they are constantly looking for something. I was on for my daily walk at night like I always do. A local cop turned the corner, they( 2 local cops in a car) slowed down and kept going. The road I was walking on had no house what so ever so it's not like they could say they thought i was going to burglarize a house. They turned back around when they got to the light. They pulled up with their lights on a the two officers came out and starting asking me and accusing me of stealing an i-phone a mile away. They had no suspicion of me committing, planning or even committed a crime. They were just hoping to find something to get me in trouble. I am tried of this, I been living in this area for a long time and I shouldn't have to live with a cop stopping me for no reason when I am just walking. When a cop turn on their lights, it gives a reasonable person to suspect they are being detained and are not free to leave. If they would have just normal drive up to me and say "hey can i talk to you", than that would have been another story. But once you turn on your lights and get with flashlights shining and start asking and accusing someone of a crime, no reasonable will be thinking they are free to leave at anytime. What actions can I take?Thank you for your time and help on advance.
