Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
ID theft
Five years ago, cingular gave some-one 3 accounts in north carolina under my former married name, that I have not used in 20+ years. They contacted me two years later about the bills, which was proven that I have never moved from ny. They dismissed the charges and promised to removed it from my credit report. Cingular then sold the account to Afini collections who have since then harassed me year after year for me to pay the account. They told me that this is no long cingular issue because they purchased the account.
Please tell me what to do and how to do it because I am tired of fighting this battle.
Veronica

Send a letter (certified return receipt) informing them that this is not your debt and not to contact you by telephone. Send a copy to the New York State Department of banking (certified return receipt).
